We're super-pleased to announce the first of this year's series of Leeds Girl Geek Dinners, starting on Thursday 11th February, hosted at Leeds' hottest new waterfront hotel, the City Inn, on Granary Wharf in Holbeck Urban Village.
This, our sixth event, is the first of a series of collaborations between Girl Geek Dinners Scotland, Leeds Girl Geeks and supported by UKRC and WYLNN.
Our speakers for the evening - Shanna Tellerman and Kaye Elling - are drawn from the video games industry and will be presented by Infinitus' Nicole Mathison, nti's Leia Bassett and Carbon Imagineering's Imran Ali.

The evening will be informal, friendly and chilled. For just £15, you can enjoy some food, drinks and the chance to hang out with the city's brightest creatives, technologists, programmers, entrepreneurs, marketeers, PR professionals and creative & digital girls - yeh yeh, we'll have a smattering of boys too ;)

Founder and CEO of Sim Ops Studios, Inc., a spin-off company from Carnegie Mellon University. Sim Ops is developing the comprehensive independent game development solution, Wild Pockets; a free web-based 3D game engine with a built-in transaction system and distribution network.
Shanna has overseen operations, development, fund raising, and strategic relationships since the formation of Sim Ops. She has over seven years of experience working in the video game and emerging serious games industry with a focus on breaking down the barriers for creative development in 3D environments.
Graduating with a Masters degree in Entertainment Technology from Carnegie Mellon University in May 2005, she was hired by the University to continue development and to investigate commercialization opportunities for the technology that formed the foundation of Sim Ops Studios.
Shanna has experience in a variety of roles including her initial involvement as visionary, product manager and designer, focused on user-centered design and research in game development, through to her current role as CEO focused on all levels execution in the company from the product roadmap to business development.
In 2004, Ms. Tellerman had the opportunity to work for Electronic Arts on The Sims 2, the sequel to the best-selling PC game ever. She has also researched and co-authored the paper titled “Emergent Stories in Massively Multiplayer Online Games: Using Improvisational Techniques to Design for Emotional Impact,” (International Conference on Entertainment Computing, 2004). She received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts and a Minor in Multi-Media Production from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003. .

with over twelve years of games industry experience, working as an artist, Lead Artist and Art Manager for Infogrames, Sony, Acclaim & Blitz Games.
Her title history includes diverse titles such as GTA2 (Take 2), the Premier Manager series (Gremlin), Colony Wars: Red Sun (Sony), Formula 1 (Sony) and most recently the Bratz series (THQ) and The Encleverment Experiment (Blitz), with experience in computer game development for the PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox360 consoles, the PC and the Wii.
Her skills lie in the creation of 2D and 3D graphics for game engines, particularly in character modelling and texturing in Maya and Photoshop, as well as many other aspects of game development and games as a cultural phenomenon.
She has a keen interest in the subject of Women in Games: This includes women as gamers, women as game developers and the portrayal of women in computer games; and an active campaigner for the recruitment of more women into technology and media careers.
Kaye's paper The Virtual Toy Box was published at Dundee Abertay University in 2005 as part of the Women in Games conference, where she now part of the steering committee and organizing the WIG 2010 conference at the University of Bradford. Edge-online voted me to be one of the "100 Most Influential Women in Games" as well as #61 on their list of "Hot 100 Game Developers of 2007".
